Nyepi is a holy day for Hindu people in Bali, celebrated every new year of Saka. It is celebrated on Tilem Kesanga which is believed to be the day of purification of the god which is located in the center of the ocean that brings the essence of eternity living water. 
Nyepi is derived from the word silent. Nyepi actually is the Hindu New Year Celebration based on calendar Caka which is started from 78 Masehi. Caka New Year in Bali begin with meditating. There is no activity as usual. All activities are halted, including public services such as any international airport will close but not the hospital. 
The main purpose of Nyepi tradition is begging to the God, to purify Bhuana Alit (the human) and Bhuana Agung (the universe). Before people in Bali celebrate Nyepi, there are several stages that they have to do.

Tenganan is a traditional village in Bali. The village located in Manggis, Karangasem Regency on the East side of Bali island. It will take about one and half hours to get there. Tenganan village is one of the three Bali Aga villages, beside Trunyan village and Sembiran village. Bali Aga is a village that still maintain their traditional culture, the governance refers to the traditional rules from their ancestors. Such as the building, the replacement of the building, the location of the temple was made by following the traditional rules.

The Unique Funeral Tradition in Bali, Trunyan Village

Bali has many destinations that always has a different uniqueness from the other tourist destinations. One of the famous tourist destination because of its uniqueness is Trunyan Bangli. Why? Not because of the place, but because the funeral tradition for people who have died there. In general, a funeral in Bali was implemented by the way of burial and burning (cremation), and also must be held a “pengabenan” ceremony.

But it is different from another villages. The village touted as the oldest village in Bali. It is carrying out the funeral only to put the corpse in a special place called “Sema Wayah”. Although there are many corpses were laid out just like that, you will not feel any bad odor. This might look unusual, but that is the reality. Trunyan village located on the west side of Batur Lake and close to the Mount Batur. In the old village called Bulian Village, Kubutambahan Sub-district, Singaraja Regency there is a big tradition called “Ngamedalang”. The purpose of this tradition is to organize the villagers in nation way because the king at that time have a duty to create a harmonic, safe, and peace life. People in Bulian already celebrate this tradition from thousand years ago.   First, on the 11th day, people in Bulian Village will do a celebration called “Piodalan Purnamaning Kapat” in Kahyangan Desa. Everyday from the 11th day, there is a celebration called “Bhakti Penglantur”. Ngerebeg is a traditional culture in Kemenuh Village, Sukawati Sub-district, Gianyar Regency. People in there called this culture “Ngerebeg” or “Ngedeblag”. Even it has different meaning but it has a relation. The word “Ngrebeg” has meaning “drop” and the word “Ngedeblag” has meaning “aware”. So it means we try to drop misfortune or anything about bad things and we aware with everything that will happen now and in the future.
